Description
Only You (And You Alone) (Ram) by The Platters
It was veteran manager-producer-songwriter Buck Ram who not only guided the careers of the most popular black vocal group of the late 1950s, but also composed the majority of their classic hit songs. Tony Williams and the Platters had previously recorded Ram’s “Only You” for the Federal label, but this more (IMO) ‘musical’ remake for Mercury put them on the map. It reached #1 R&B and #3 pop, selling over a million. See also the top-10 Hilltoppers version.
