While some people may associate this Oscar winning Mancini-Mercer ballad primarily with Andy Williams, his version was not even issued on a regular commercial 45 during the song’s initial 1961 period of popularity and, thus, never appeared on the Hot 100 or other singles charts (the Henry Mancini and Jerry Butler versions were the hits). However, “Moon River” did serve as the title track for Andy’s popular 1962 LP “Moon River & Other Great Movie Themes” and he was heard singing the tune’s first line at the opening of his weekly television program.
