Description
Composed to promote interest in the upcoming new Michael Caine film “Alfie,” the Bacharach-David song was recorded by a number of artists in 1966. Cilla’s version made the UK top-10, the Cher recording (which was heard over the movie’s closing credits in the U.S.) reached the Billboard Top 40 (listen here: https://youtu.be/w9hBpqXikeo ), and the most successful version in America didn’t come until Dionne Warwick’s #15 hit in mid-1967 (listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN8yM-eYMj0 )
The 45rpm singles were issued on (UK) Parlophone 5437 and (US) Capitol 5674 - Alfie (Burt Bacharach-Hal David) by Cilla Black, conducted by Burt Bacharach, produced by George Martin, recorded February 22, 1966
