Description
Here is Judy’s original commercial recording of the Christmas seasonal standard from MGM’s “Meet Me In St. Louis.” The popular 1944 Decca 78 album of music from the movie was still positioned at #2 when Billboard’s debuted its “Best-Selling Popular Albums” chart in March 1945.
Note the original lyrics, slightly different from what we’re used to hearing, which reflect the song’s placement at the saddest point in the movie’s plot (visualize a heartbroken Judy trying to comfort a weeping little Margaret O’Brien).
The original 78rpm single was issued on Decca 23362 (in Decca album A-380) - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (Hugh Martin-Ralph Blane) by Judy Garland, orchestra conducted by Georgie Stoll, recorded April 20, 1944
