Soloing Over 'All Of Me' With Chords

It adds so much to your solos when you add chordal inversions and in this video I'll teach you some ideas to get you going with over the tune 'All Of Me'.

So you need to learn some new voicings for the basic chords of 'All Of Me' which are C, E7, A7, Dm, Am, D7, G7, F, Fm, A7.

Once you have these shapes, played usually on the top 4 strings of the guitar, then you're in business!

Watch the video and check out which inversions I choose for each of the chords of 'All Of Me'. I walk through the chord changes and show you options for each chord.

Using these kind of chords in your solo sound great especially towards the end of your solo or when you want to add more power and drive.

Here's a guide to each of the chords I use in the video lesson:

C Major. - This is a nice chunky inversion of C major. G-C-E-A - usually used when you play rhythm it can also sound really powerful in your solo.

For the E7 we'll use a diminished shape on the 12th fret which you can slide down every 3 frets. This is a sure way to play over a dominant 7th by using diminished.

Check out the two options for A7. 1st is a diminished shape with extended pinky and second a hip sounding A7#9

For D minor the Dm9 inversion up on the 10th fret always sounds cool. You can use this same shape on the 5th fret for Am9.

For D7 I use the top of a D13 shape on the 10th fret.

Going into Dm is nice using a minor 2-5-1..that's Em7-5, A7, Dm

Dm. This inversion down in open position sounds great! A-F-A-B

F major D-G-C F6 to Fm a couple possibilities.

C down to A you can use that 13th shape on the 8th fret sliding down to 5th fret A7.

There's many more but this will give you some starters to get going.

Swing Out!
Robin
