In honor of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics in South Korea, I did a cover of a very deeply significant Korean folk song called "Arirang".
Knowing the significance of this song, it's become something very important to me on a personal level. With high respect, I present Arirang.

Arirang is deeply embedded in Korean culture and is a song that unites both North and South Koreans. This song was played in the entrance to the historical moment of North and South Korea coming in during opening ceremony as one Korea. This song has very long history and the original composer is still speculated by historians. Korea has seen horrific wars and watched as it's nation split into two. This song has given comfort and pride among all Koreans. It's a song of unity, empowerment, and hope.

"Arirang was inscribed on the UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012." (ABC). During the opening ceremony according to ABC, "And then, an 80-year-old singer filled the stadium with his voice, striking the chord of every spectator. Kim Nam-ki, the oldest man alive to have sung the original version of Jeongseon Arirang.". According to UNESCO, "Experts estimate the total number of folk songs carrying the title ‘Arirang’ at some 3,600 variations belonging to about sixty versions."

The stringed instrument is inspired by the gayageum, a Korean zither. It's in the same family as the Chinese guzheng and guqin, as well as the Japanese koto.
