Recorded live at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf June 2022
Guitarist Arturo Castro Nogueras draws on a rich cultural heritage that spans his Cuban, Puerto Rican and Mexican origins. Born into a family of musicians, he has performed solo and chamber music recitals all over the European, North and South American and African continents, featuring primarily music from his three cultures. Distinguished by the originality of his artistic endeavors and collaborations, he strives to make music part of a wider social and discursive field, as well as a tool for intercultural dialogue and post-colonial exploration.
Nyani Quarmyne is a photographer focused on global health, social justice and the environment. He is drawn to work on things that are not as they should be, or themes that invite us to consider how things might otherwise be. Multi-ethnic and with a life spanning five continents, he finds a certain sameness in all of us—regardless of our respective cultures, origins and beliefs—that is central to his work. He works internationally with globally recognised organisations and his images appear in exhibitions and major outlets around the world.
Though they come from very different disciplines, Castro Nogueras’ and Quarmyne’s ideals and objectives and the kinds of human connections they aim to forge through their work are analogous. Through their synthesis of sound and image they will interpret journeys in parallel, creating inter-woven paths to the same destination.
