Description
"Ashokan Farewell" ~ An iconic American violin waltz in the style of a Scottish Lament performed here by Jack Stamates, Tricianne Garrihy, & Patrick Kelleghan at a free public Friday night beach boardwalk concert at the Hollywood Beach Theater in Hollywood Beach, Florida, March 13, 2009. This video is a bit dark, but it captures a great performance and shows many couples at the beach getting into the waltzing mood.

Jack Stamates - violin
"Ashokan Farewell" was composed by Jay Ungar in 1982, and later used as the title theme of Ken Burns' 1990 PBS television documentary miniseries "The Civil War". Ashokan was a Catskill region village in New York state that is now mostly covered by the Ashokan Reservoir. Jay Ungar composed it as tribute to the conclusion of his Fiddle & Dance Camp held in Ashokan in 1982, to capture the emotions of the participating musicians as they finished their retreat.
