Description
“My undergraduate voice teacher Earl Coleman is a huge champion for African-American and Black composers,” says bass-baritone Michael Sumuel. “Hall Johnson (1880-1970) became an important composer in my journey as an artist and person of faith. I’ve performed quite a few of his spiritual arrangements.”
Michael sings two of his favorites for the Atrium Sessions: "Ride On, King Jesus" and, soon to follow, "Take My Mother Home," both performed with pianist Maureen Zoltek.
"Ride On, King Jesus" is performed with permission of Carl Fischer, LLC, care of the Theodore Presser Company. For more musical inspiration, discover the Atrium Sessions, performances that tell story through song: sfopera.com/atriumsessions #AtriumSessions
