Here is a quick clip of the Kyoran Group taiko and awa dance team, mostly fan dancing. showing great skill and process with their beat. They laid down one of the most powerful and young energy filled sessions in the rotunda. The whole space was throbbing with life of graceful movement and the sound of thunder. sounds cheesy, but that shit is real... like being across the whole world awesome. the spirit in which they played throughout the whole of the matsuri was what makes you understand that to be young is fresh. enjoy
This is the Tokushima Awa Odori August 15 2017, the Hikari Group. A group, in terms of street forms of the Awa Dance, usually consists of a group of Taiko... many (8-20) large upright taiko attached at the chest, a smaller drum shime daiko (2-3), the bell cymbal kane-worn on the belt and held at a slight angle from the chest (1-2), other various percussion varying from group to group like bamboo blocks and tubes, wood blocks, etc... The drums are hit with a swinging twist of the wrist with a lot of energy and force. This creates a loud rukus rhythm with the sound of the bell holding down the tempo.
