Description

“Baptized in Water” is a Christian hymn rich in baptismal images and scriptural allusions. The opening stanza draws upon several passages including Hebrews 1:14: “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”

Romans 6:3-5 provides the central biblical grounding for stanza two: “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.” Stanza two also reflects the image of dying and rising with Christ. We are “dead in the tomb with Christ, our King.” Then we are “one in his rising, freed and forgiven....”
