Description
Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
"Every concert has a life of its own," says maestro Paavo Järvi. That goes for these performances at a past edition of the Beethovenfest, which haven't aged over the past eleven years.
The orchestra uses its German name Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen even when traveling in the English-speaking world. It translates to "German Chamber Philharmonic." As the name suggests, it's a somewhat smaller orchestra. For that reason, its music director since 2004, Paavo Järvi, feels "more like a musician among musicians" when working with them.
Järvi once described his first impression of them. "I was amazed at how well and with how little burden of tradition, at how freshly the orchestra approached Beethoven. My impression was: 'Heavens, they play it almost the way you always imagined.' So I didn't have to find a basis. We already had one on which we could set to work".
And so they did, delving first into the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven, followed by those of Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms – all three projects preserved in DW television documentaries.
Here they play the third movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 in F Major, opus 93, marked "Tempo di Menuetto" (taken at the speed of a minuet).
Deutsche Welle and Unitel Classica present Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi, conductor of the year 2019, and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, recorded at the Beethovenfest in Bonn.
