Description

Saxophon-Orchester Dobbri - Tausend Worte Liebe (Thousand Words of Love) Slow-Fox (Willy Engelberger) mit Gesang: Max Mensing, Parlophon 1929 (Germany)

NOTE: There’s no doubt that Saxophon-Orchester Dobbri was one of the best dance bands in the Weimar Republic. Founded in the mid-1920s as the house-band for the Carl Lindstroem Concern labels (Beka, Parlophon, Odeon & Gloria) and led by the German renowned orchestra leader Otto Dobrindt, it recorded for Beka under the names of Saxophon Orchester Dobbri and the Bohème Orchester, for Odeon as the Odeon-Tanz-Orchester and for Gloria as Eric Harden’s Tanz Orchester. It however never performed in public, leaving its activity merely to recording commercial performances for dancing. Therefore – as pure examples of true Roaring 20s’ sound of Berlin, the Otto Dobrindt’s band’s recordings are very much valued to this day.

The slideshow presents some stunning posters from Germany of the 1920s.
