Music & lyrics written by Consuelo Velasquez of Mexico in 1941. According to Velasquez, the song was inspired by an aria from an opera by Enrique Granados, a Spanish composer and pianist of classical music. Played by Trio Los Panchos, whether this was the first version I'm not sure but I found this version is the best version I've ever heard so far, particularly their outstanding guitar arrangement.
