From the album "After Hours, Volume 2"
"I often thought of Mychal as a mirror, he was so empathetic he seemed to reflect your own hopes and fears. I never knew anyone who helped so many people; he was always concerned, forever providing a shoulder."
- Larry Kirwan
Next in our series celebrating the songs of Black 47, Irish folk legend Finbar Furey performs "Mychal".
Father Mychal Judge, a Franciscan friar and Catholic priest, was chaplain of the New York City Fire Department. On September 11, 2001 Fr. Mychal entered the North Tower of the World Trade Center alongside the other firefighters and rescue personnel to provide help. As the South Tower collapsed, debris flew through the North Tower lobby killing many including Fr. Mychal. Though many had perished before him, he was given the solemn honor of being designated Victim 0001 – the first recorded casualty of 9/11.
