Green's first solo in "Blues for Willarene" showcases his expertise in fusing bebop and blues scales together. He was soulful and sophisticated in his approach, and his solos always developed into musical stories that contained a very clear and thematic overlay of idiomatic phrases that further evolved across each form. Green was elegant in extracting so much musical mileage from the most repetitively simple blues motifs. These "cliche" passages are some of Green's most memorable phrases, and you can hear them in so many of his his recordings!
