The music world lost a soulful genius when Bobby Whitlock, co‑founder of Derek & the Dominos, passed away at 77 on August 10, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home in Texas, at 1:20 a.m., surrounded by loved ones—his wife, CoCo Carmel, three children, and his sister

Born March 18, 1948, in Memphis, Whitlock forged his career alongside the legends of Stax Records—becoming its first white artist

His journey took him through Delaney & Bonnie, ultimately leading to a collaboration with Eric Clapton in forming Derek & the Dominos in 1970

On the landmark album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (1970), Bobby’s songwriting and soulful keyboard work left an indelible mark. He co‑wrote iconic tracks like “Bell Bottom Blues,” “Tell the Truth,” “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?”, and helped bring “Anyday” to life
