We went to an awesome drum class in Pelourinho – Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The class was taught by a talented musician and Olodum drum master. He was so fun and easy to work with. He did a great job with the kids.
Olodum is the famous afro-brazilian drumming group that combats social discrimination and symbolizes African- Brazilian history, culture and pride. Olodum received worldwide recognition after participating in the Michael Jackson song called They Don't Really Care About Us. The video was recorded in Pelourinho where Michael Jackson played with over 200 members of the Olodum group.
The people of Pelourihno honor Michael Jackson by keeping his photo up in the square and constantly playing his music. We love it!
The drum class was such a great experience. I have always loved the sound of African drums. It was awesome to actually get to play around with one. It was so fun to play and make music with my family. The kids loved trying new instruments and making wild music. We even got to watch a street performance. Video 47
