* Brolga “Antigone rubicunda”

Brolga is a bird in the crane family and they feed on a variety of food of both plant and animal origin, some insects, molluscs, and even mice are taken.

Note: Named changed from "Grus rubicunda" to "Antigone rubicunda" as I found out this was the original genus that had been updated.

All images and video I have taken are from the Western Treatment Plant around the western lagoons, these birds are very tall and graceful in their movements and they are lovely to watch when they appear to dance and prance around the place.

The Western Treatment Plant is a mecca for bird life, with over 280 species recorded there and is simply awesome, if you are from out of town and in the area it is a must for Bird Watches & wildlife Photographers alike, always keep in mind that is a privilege to be able to get access to this area, so please do the right thing and follow the rules, all you need to do is get a Bird Watchers Permit from Melbourne Water and do an induction course to be aware of safety issues that are around the site.
