***Rest in Peace Michael Lang (1944-2022), the mastermind/co-creator of the music festival OF ALL music festivals, the original music festival, the music festival that inspired every single music festival that came after it either directly or indirectly, the music festival that will always be the #1 and most significant one of its kind in history, none other than Woodstock '69 in Bethel, NY. Thank you Michael for your vision of what 3 days of peace/love/music could truly look like. No one did it better than you before and certainly no one has done it better than you since Woodstock 1969. You will be missed, but your impact and memory will live on for eternity***
Going Up The Country" from Canned Heat's 1968 album "Living the Blues" was one of the biggest hits/anthems of the Woodstock generation. The band played this song, among others, at Woodstock 1969.
Canned Heat based this song, the strong presence of the flute in particular, on an old blues song called "Bull Doze Blues" by Henry Thomas. Canned Heat's song really embodies so much of the 1960's counter-culture ideas and attitudes about life. The youth wanted to make their own rules and lifestyles. They were frustrated with the old conservative ways of the 1950's. This song is simple and to the point which makes it beautiful.
