Description
Capoeiristas Capacete and Nubia (right) are demonstrating an improvised sequence of capoeira attacks and defenses practiced in Capoeira Régional, one the main three lineages of capoeira. They’re accompanied by a lively group that’s singing in a circle formation called the roda, or the space where capoeira is played. The charanga, or the orchestra, plays the instruments. Everyone sings and claps to bring their energy to the roda, which is a vital part of capoeira. It fosters community, togetherness and evokes the asé, the spiritual force that gives life and power to anything and everything.
