This was my first attempt at both mixing and mastering guitar and vocals tracks. I was overall very pleased with the final result, however, I know that there are some areas that leave much left to be desired (I know I know the highs disappear into the ether). While I hope many of you who watch this enjoy it, I am also curious for those of you who have more knowledge than me about mixing and mastering would do differently. I can’t get better if I don’t know how!

With that being said, it’s rather apt that I am attempting this whilst covering a song from Andrew Baena’s band. His content on this platform has been immensely helpful for me as a guitarist that loves to tune low and chug slow. It is a niche of metal music that has become increasingly popular over the past few years, yet trying to achieve a tight punchy tone when in double drop tunings is knowledge not readily available on the internet. Baena was the one who convinced me to switch out the factory pickups in my ESP MH-17 with Seymour Duncan Sentient/Pegasus pickups that you see onscreen, purchase the Neural DSP Granophyre VST plugin, and how to bring it all together into a (somewhat) cohesive mix.
