Description
The era under Chairman Mao and the subsequent Cultural Revolution produced a large number of patriotic and Nationalistic Chinese music. Well known of these are "The East is Red" and "March of the Volunteers", both of which have been used as Chinese National Anthems, and possibly the most famous work of that era - The Yellow River Cantata and Piano Concerto. Notwithstanding the propaganda and political undertones of the lyrics of some of these "Red Songs", they have left a musical legacy of some very memorable tunes.
Wei Shan Lake is the fifth largest freshwater lake in China, and the largest in Northern China. It is a popular tourist resort.
This popular song extols the beauty of the Wei Shan Lake.
