Coisich a ruin - Come on my love
by Capercaillie
in 1991 Capercaille took Coisich a’ Rùin (a 400-year-old waulking song) and gave it a modern beat and rhythm to please the ear of the modern Gael, and it worked. That album was the first ever to have a Scots Gaelic tune to enter the UK top 40 . The tune is from the viewpoint of an Island lass calling out to her sweetheart John Cambell to come to see her on Harris, she describes him and even begs him to hitch a ride with the Macneil's if they set sail. after its popularity across Britain, it was chosen as the theme tune for a UK wide TV program featuring Prince Charles entitled “A Prince among islands”. Charles appeared on this program supporting Gaelic.
