Simple Explanation of the TANGON II:
The song TANGON II begins with a poem or HIIS from the KDMR community, which has been turned into a melodic chant to celebrate the joy after the harvest season.
TANGON II tells the story of Sundu Bambarayon, a spiritual being who manifests as an old woman wishing to harvest paddy in the villagers’ paddy fields. At that time, the community would help each other harvest paddy under the condition that the harvested crops would be shared equally.
The old woman (Sundu Bambarayon) went to several paddy fields but was repeatedly turned away, as the owners feared they would not have enough for themselves. However, there was one humble couple with a small field who welcomed the old woman and allowed her to harvest there. Miraculously, she managed to harvest an abundance of paddy, far exceeding the actual size of the couple’s field. Shocked by the plentiful harvest, the couple wanted to give a portion of it to the old woman, but she refused. She only asked for a meal and then disappeared without a trace.
In TANGON II, the lyrics are mostly conversations between the old woman and the villagers, as well as Sundu Bambarayon’s feelings toward the kind-hearted couple. The message conveyed through this song is to not be greedy or selfish, and to always share your blessings with others, for by doing so, your own sustenance will grow abundantly.
FULL LYRICS
Verse:
Andayayong, Andayayong
Kaino toinsanan mogitoto'od,
Come, let’s rejoice together,
Ogumu nodii noomot,
We’ve harvested so much,
Monongkotoluod ,
Grateful,
Sundu Bambarayon
Paddy’s Spirit
Andayayong, Andayayong
Tadau di tana'au,
A bright sunny day,
Mongomot tokou,
We reap the harvest,
Mitimung tokou,
We gather,
Kaino suminding,
We sing,
Monongkotoluod,
Grateful,
Sundu Bambarayon
Paddy’s Spirit
Ooo Kinongoho' om intangai
Ooo, listen and see,
Conversation 1:
Intangai kinoyononku,
Look at my place,
Norumpasan do tongotulun ku,
Now filled with my people,
Aiso no koliwangan montok dika,
Surely no room left for you,
Mumbal rumapou id kinoyonon suai
So perhaps, try somewhere else.
Conversation 2:
Intangai kinoyononku
Look at my place,
Noolu-oku po montok doho,
Now left just for me,
Amu nodi moti kabagal,
There won’t be enough for you,
Mumbal rumapou id kinoyonon suai
So perhaps, try somewhere else.
Conversation 3:
Intangai kinoyononku,
Look at my place,
Sundung okoro om au abagalan,
Though small and humble,
Nga kada ko' kotongob,
Though small and humble,
Rikot do mongomot miagal di kosionuan nu.
Come harvest as what you desire
Bridge x 2 :(sundu bambarayon’s voice)
Iti no kominaganku montok toinsanan,
This is what i need for all,
Iti no potindohoyonku kasaasari,
This is what i always protect
Ginawo po’inlidang om aiso gamaha,
A pure and sincere heart, free from greed,
Om onuan isio' koinsanan,
And it shall be granted everything.
Repeat Conversation 2 and 3
Outro:
Ehhhhya
Kaino toinsanan
Come, everyone,
Ramayo kasanangan
Celebrate goodness,
Okon ko' koindaraatan
Not wickedness.
Ehyaaaa
Kaino toinsanan
Come, everyone,
Kada tamaha ginawo
Free your heart from greed,
Tataba' toinsanan
Prosperity for all.
