The Dance of the Yao People is one of the most popular Chinese instrumental pieces in the 20th century. It was written in 1952 and inspired by a visit to Youling, Sanpai, Liannan, and Guangdong by the composer Liu Tieshan (刘铁山) in 1951. The Dance of the Yao People was later adapted for orchestra by Mao Yuan (茅沅). Jin Zhang (张进)arranged this Western orchestral version.
