crossed the threshold.
My eyes searched for what my lips
dared not name.
And there you were.
Standing still,
as if you had been waiting for me
since long before the first note.

We looked at each other.

Not as others might.
We looked
like two souls who knew
there was a distance between feeling
and propriety.
And yet—

and your hands found mine
as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

We turned.

only we were real.

like it was trying to say
what you could not speak.
