DEVIL WITH A BLUE DRESS/GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY - (LIVE). Featuring DANA DOUGLAS. From the Nationally Syndicated Television Series "The Village Square" (1964 -1968)
This was the opening song on the first Live COLOR Show from Charlotte, NC. in the fall of 1966. KEEP READING GUITAR PLAYERS!
Dana Douglas - Lead Vocal, Wayne West - Lead Guitar, Leroy Thompson - 12 String Guitar, Bill (Jonesy) Jones - Bass, Steve Wiggins - Keyboard, Fred Hoffmann - Drums
The dancer on the right is Mary Jane Devine... Jim Owens, the manager and producer of the Village Square found her at one of The Villagers College gigs in North Carolina.
I have to agree with your comments.
With the effects boxes we used back then and the Tele sound, it seemed to be a little thin.
So on the TV Shows, gigs and recording studios I used a home-made compression unit and a Rotosound Tone Bender pedal from England.
That made the sound a little "Phatter" (Is that a real word?).
In 1967 I switched over to a '54 Les Paul (That was fat sound).
Later I started using Strats again with humbuckers (Also fat).
I still use my '58 Strat, but on this video of "Red House", I am playing a Brian Moore guitar.
(See if you think this sound is "Phat" enough) Wayne West
