Description
Big frames can be quite costly so I came up with this DIY to add some personality to my balcony without breaking the bank.
I bought fairly thin wood strips in a hardware store. Using them, you can even skip angle cutting as they fit perfectly as they are.
However, I’ll show how to make frames using boards with any pattern. You’ll need a miter box to get precise 45° cuts.
If you use a hand saw, start cutting inside your miter box and then remove the board to finish sawing conveniently.
Sand the edges a little to smooth out splinters.
I have a jigsaw at home so it streamlined the process. Mark the angles with the help of the miter box first.
Use a tape measure to mark the necessary length. It’s possible to customize the size of your frames by making them yourself.
Jigsaw makes cutting way faster and easier.
Once you have all the pieces cut, attach them together to form the frame using a staple gun or glue.
You can combine both to keep everything in place and make sure the frame is sturdy.
The next step is spray painting the frames and letting them dry.
Attach your poster to a piece of cardboard or foam board using double-sided duct tape or spray adhesive.
This will give the poster some stability and make it easier to work with.
The frames will have no glass to make them lighter. So the next step is to spray posters with a few layers of spray mat varnish.
This will protect every poster from sun and water damage and give it a nice mat finish.
Now it’s time to assemble the final product gluing the frame to the poster.
Remove excess glue with a clean dusting cloth.
Once the glue dries, carefully cut away any unnecessary cardboard areas using an exacto knife.
And there you have it, an easy way to make a superlight customizable poster frame for a fraction of the price.
