I first tried learning this song over three years ago. I had a lot of trouble once it went high up on the bass, so I kind of moved on to other songs and forgot about it. I really like it as a song though. It's a really driving tune and the solo section has somewhat of a Judas Priest vibe (though the solo itself doesn't feel like that). I absolutely love this era of the non-makeup years for the band. Gene found his look, Eric was a beast full of energy (both of them), Paul's muscles were super defined. This was really heavy, and I wished they had done more like this and Unholy. I also know it was during the non-makeup years, but I couldn't say no to the KISS Makeup

This track is kind of hard to hear the bass sometimes. When the guitar moves, it's hard to hear if he's still pedalling or follows the guitar. It's really cool how in the music video, Paul is playing Gene's Bass, even though paul wasn't even on the track at all. In everything from unplugged and after, in the verses gene does the 2-3-4-5-5 with the guitars. It's there on the demo right before got my hesitations as well.
unplugged - it's there on never had a home, it's there in preverse 2, verse 3 and fill
Kruise - It's not there. He's got his hand in his ear to hear the IEM, does lower octave fill to chorus 2
'92 - detroit, it's not there, in pre verse 2, not verse 3, but has the octave fill to chorus 2
Alive III - not there, preverse 3 has 4-5-6-7 on the A instead of an octave lower,not there verse 3
demo - not there verse 1, in verse 2 and preverse 2. Verse 3 is straight 8ths on the open A except a slight fill into chorus
'94 - Brazil, it's there, in verse 3, fill to chorus 2; chorus 2, he hits the 3,5 then slides

so, I'm just going to pick the one that I think I hear. You can tell that he plays it inconsistently, but if he doesn't play it, it's just playing 5 on E (or 0 on A) instead.

Bar 43,44 gene plays differently almost every time. live, he hits the notes more, and then slides and waits for the pre verse. That's not what he does on the album tho

0:31 - gene keeps hitting the open A during "never had confessions"
he keeps hitting the open A and then right before the next section ("loves..."), follows the guitar

after the slide at 0:21 you can see gene fret the higher note, so it's 5 on the A instead of open D
You can also see his rhythm if you slow it down to .5 speed. He does quarter on the 5, then 0-3 (upstroke on the 3) and then waits an 8th and upstrokes on the next 0 8th note
0:38 he uses the open string while he points and stuff with his left hand
