Description

Heinrich Schacht (1817-1863) wrote the text for the song known today with the title: The German Emigrants. He was a worker poet, not a musician. So he texted on already known tunes and replaced the existing in known songs texts by his own.

However, the song "Ein stolzes Schiff", which has become very popular today through the folk group Zupfgeigenhansel, can only be combined with the melody of Erich Schmeckenbecher, which has nothing to do with that of Methfessel.

The German Americans are the biggest ethnic group of the US population and make up around 1/6 with 50 million people.
