Description

Titling her newest record "The Laziest Girl in Town" may seem ironic for vocalist and new mom Elizabeth McQueen. For the past year and a half McQueen has been the very opposite of lazy - raising the newest addition to her family, Lisel Blossom Sanger McQueen, on the road while touring the country with the Grammy Award winning band Asleep at the Wheel. It was this experience that inspired McQueen to conceive and create her newest record -- one that explores the beauty of imperfection, and the immediacy of emotion. "When you're logging in thousands of miles with a baby in tow, you learn to let go of the need to get everything right and you come to appreciate all that life throws at you. I wanted to see if I could have that same attitude in the studio."
Elizabeth McQueen is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. She spent her tweens, teens and very early twenties in Columbia, MD singing in choirs and eventually playing in bands. In 2001, McQueen made her way down to Austin with the vague goal of "playing music." Though she had little experience fronting her own band, she jumped into the Austin Americana scene and in 2003 released her first album, The Fresh-Up Club, a roots country romp. In 2005 Freedom Records released her pub rock tribute "Happy Doing What We're Doing," a record that won her glowing reviews from the Austin Chronicle, the Village Voice, the Washington Post. In 2005 McQueen accepted the gig with the Texas legends and nine-time Grammy winners, Asleep At The Wheel. During her time with the Wheel she's been featured on six records, performed and recorded with the Fort Worth Symphony, and backed up Merle Haggard, Ray Price and Willie Nelson on the "Last of the Breed Tour." She's even acted as a member of the cast of "A Ride With Bob," the Ray Benson produced musical about the life and music of Bob Wills. And then there is what she considers to be "thrill of my life" -- recording, performing live and taping Austin City Limits with the legendary Willie Nelson. One of her career highlights was singing the duet "Sittin' On Top of The World" with him for the Grammy nominated Willie and the Wheel album. "Performing with him every night on the road," she says, "was like going to singer school. I just watched him and tried to match his ease, his presence and his musicality."
