Description
Jay Roberts composed this rag in 1912.
James Martin "Jay" Roberts, better known by the name of Jay Roberts was an American music ragtime composer. He was Born in 1890 in California , he composed six pieces of ragtime . His most famous song is "The Entertainer's Rag", whose title was inspired by the song " The Entertainer "by Scott Joplin . He sadly committed suicide in 1932 of a bullet in the head at the age of 42 years.
The Entertainer's Rag was very, very popular and a million seller.
The Entertainer's Rag is an 88 note hand-played roll No. 80375. It's in its original maroon box, but again...I guess the silverfish enjoyed "eating" part of the title. It was sold by the Joseph Candioto piano and player piano Co., Broadway, in Lexington, KY. By the way there are the letters "D" on one side of the box and the number "3" on the other which are still intact. And yes...I always keep the original boxes if I can....even if they are a bit dirty. I always ask that others NEVER throw out a box if it has ANY information at all.
I don't know who played this roll and would appreciate any information.
