Humble is Adelaide vocalist Erin Buku’s debut single as a solo artist and her first with Hopestreet Recordings. Available worldwide on April 29th, Humble introduces Erin’s signature blend of synth heavy hiphop soul and is paired with a remix by UK broken beat luminary Kaidi Tatham. Humble is a chunky boom bap jam perfectly suited to Erin’s soulful voice and as the title suggests it sees the vocalist outlining her policy for a good life: humility, kindness, honesty and love in one’s actions being the perfect recipe for a good night’s sleep. Kaidi Tatham’s remix takes the song into gentler, jazzier territory w tremolo fender rhodes painting a shimmering backdrop but the drums stay strong and present in both versions. Humble will be of particular interest to fans of Cleo Sol, Jorja Smith and Tiana Khasi and is the first taste of Erin’s forthcoming EP, Lessons In Love.

Humble is almost entirely self produced, with Erin playing most instruments and handling the arrangements. That there is some ‘additional funk’ as she describes it from her husband and production partner, Adelaide DJ and Producer Inkswel. The couple and their children had been based in Europe before the pandemic performing as the duo Planet Self, DJing and raising two cute, troublesome children. They made many valuable connections including UK legend Kaidi Tatham - jazz keyboardist and producer (and in this case remixer) once described as “the UK’s Herbie Hancock” known for his work with Bugz In The Attic and The Herbaliser currently signed to London label First Word Records. Now based back in Melbourne, Erin and Inkswel’s Northern Hemisphere connections are paying off, on both of their releases.
