Description
So I decided to chart the evolution of the James Bond Theme through the sixty years and 24 films of the series by chronicling every use, interpolation, variation and arrangement of the motif in every film. Why? I thought it might be interesting and be a good grounding for further research into how the theme and its usage has changed - the various moods and situations it's been used in, for example.
Inevitably I'll have missed some, so if some eagle-eared person spots any just leave a comment. I'll add them into the updated version I'll make later in the year after No Time to Die bumps the tally up further.
I've used my own judgement as to what constitutes a usage of the theme - some of them are a little indistinct, because the motif has been so modified over the years. I've also used my own discretion on what counts as separate "usages" as some are pretty close together. A general rule of thumb was if two uses of some element of the Bond Theme were separated by a piece of unrelated score, that counted as two separate usages (though I don't think I was always 100% firm on this rule). No doubt some will disagree with this list, and that's fine!
For the most part I've tried to leave the score in its original context (with dialogue, sound effects etc) to better give an impression of how the score is being used. However, if the score is inaudible over sound effects/dialogue (or if the sound effects are particularly loud and obnoxious) I've switched to a clean version of the score if one is available.
I've had to butcher a few clips (LTK, TND, TWINE, DAD) to try and get past YouTube's punitive copyright, even though this is fair use. It still didn't work, so if MGM takes this down in the next few weeks I'll try and fix it and reupload, but it takes ~6 hours to render and a further hour to upload. Sorry.
And yes, it took bloody ages. A real labour of love, as they say.
