China National Traditional Orchestra's audio-visual concert “Festive Forever: Chinese Music of Traditional Festivals" combines Chinese music with traditional festival stories which date back thousands of years. Through the pieces specifically composed for this concert, it brings the audience an extraordinary aesthetic enjoyment. Starting from the Chinese lunar new year – Spring Festival, the concert demonstrates typical traditional Chinese festivals in the form of the traditional orchestral music in chronological order: Lantern Festival, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Qixi Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Double Ninth Festival and Winter Solstice.
The China National Traditional Orchestra (CNTO) is the largest and most comprehensive music institution of its kind in China, comprising a full orchestra, a chorus and offices for concerts and composition, etc. Founded in 1960, CNTO’s inaugural President Li Huanzhi is an esteemed composer and Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association. Current leadership consists of Xi Qiang, Zhao Dongsheng, Liu Yupu, QiaoAili, Zhao Cong and Tang Feng.
CNTO carries the mission of promoting China’s musical heritage. With an extensive repertoire of traditional and new works, CNTO has long contributed to the country’s cultural landscape. Throughout the decades, China’s leaders and many foreign dignitaries have enjoyed CNTO’s performances, many of which having won high praises. CNTO has visited numerous countries over the years, among them the United States, Mexico, Peru, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Greece, Egypt, Israel, Singapore, Korea and Japan.
In recent years, CNTO has produced such iconic full-length programmes as Impressions: Chinese Music, Rediscover Chinese Music, Looking for Dufu, Golden Echoes, Beautiful Rivers and Mountains, Grand Music from China, Bridge to Chinese Music, Cowherd and Weaver Maid, Chinese Music in Splendor, Love Songs in the Moonlight and Xuanzang’s Pilgrimage, the world’s first Chinese concert in drama.
