If you’re looking for some date night inspiration, this is a great option. Filet mignon is a crowd pleaser and caprese salad is simple yet classy. Spending a little extra on ripe heirloom tomatoes and good olive oil makes a big difference.

I highly suggest finding out how your date likes their steak cooked (anything more than medium rare is a good sign you need a new date… Jk). If they appreciate steak on the rare-medium rare side, filet or strip are good options. If they like their steak medium and beyond, I would consider something like a ribeye. The extra fat will help prevent it from drying out at higher temps.

Lastly, this video sparked more debate in my Tiktok comment section than any other video. Besides the questionable song choice, people either thought the steak was completely raw or horribly over cooked.

My personal takeaway is a reminder that each time I cook a steak, I learn something. In this case it was a reminder that the thicker the steak, the more gently it needs to be cooked. This filet could have benefited from some form of low heat element (like reverse sear) to minimize that grey band.
