Description
Shirley Chisholm holds several firsts: first black woman elected to congress, the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination, and first African-American, man or woman, to launch a bid for a major party presidential ticket. Despite her drive and accomplishments, she faced discrimination on two fronts and an uphill battle to be taken seriously as a candidate. She addressed those issues on "Face the Nation" in the fall of 1971.
