Description
Those who aren't into classical music may still know this piece thanks to the brilliant usage that filmmaker Stanley Kubrick made of it in his movie "A Clockwork orange" from 1971 (his best film in my opinion). "La Gazza Ladra" ("The Thieving Magpie" - "La Urraca Ladrona" in Spanish) is a semi-serious opera in two acts by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini premiered on May 31, 1817. Here you can hear the opera's overture performed by the Lamoureux Orchestra (from Paris) under the baton of French (born in Marseille) conductor Roberto Benzi. Recording taken from a 1970 compilation LP of opera overtures on the Philips label, made in the UK.
