Description
George Frideric Handel
MESSIAH (oratorio)
(1741)
Glory to God
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11, KJV)
And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host
praising God, and saying:
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth, good will towards men (Luke 2:13-15, KJV)

Messiah is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible, and from the Coverdale Psalter, the version of the Psalms included with the Book of Common Prayer
Only a few works in the history of music have enjoyed such continuing popularity ever since their creation as Handel’s Messiah. The composer’s most renowned opus still captivates audiences by melodic invention, vocal virtuosity, and extraordinarily effective settings of Biblical texts
