A week prior to the end of her term, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was treated to a traditional sendoff, Thursday, outside of the Defense Ministry in Berlin.
A German military contingent played three songs of Merkel’s choosing in the chancellor’s honor.
Merkel chose, in honor of her faith, “Holy God, we Praise thy Name,” a traditional German chanson, Hildegard Knef’s “It Shall Rain Red Roses for Me,” and a punk song from her youth, Nina Hagen’s “You Forgot the Color Film.”
Merkel’s replacement, German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, will be sworn in next week. (AP)
