Description
"Last Song" is a 1972/73 hit song by Canadian trio Edward Bear. It was the first release from their 1972 self-titled third album and spent 18 weeks on the U.S. charts, and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973 -- and reached #1 in Canada the same year.
The Edward Bear Revue, later Edward Bear, was formed in 1966. The name is derived from A.A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh, whose "proper" name is Edward Bear. At first the band had a bluesy, rock sound; at one point they opened for Led Zeppelin.
The band signed with Capitol Records in 1969 with a lineup of Evoy, guitarist/vocalist Danny Marks and keyboardist/vocalist Paul Weldon. Their sound moved toward blues and pop. They released an album, Bearings, that year. Their single, "You, Me and Mexico", was a Top 5 hit in Canada and charted well in the United States.
Edward Bear disbanded in 1974.
