Guitar Hero was a great success, and started a whole line of music games. Both the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series trace their origins to the first Guitar Hero games, developed by Harmonix. Guitar Hero II looks much the same as the first Guitar Hero, but improves on the gameplay in a number of ways. Most notably, hammer-ons and pull-offs were made easier. Three-note chords were introduced. And the new Practice Mode gave players the chance to practice a song at various speeds without failing.
