Description
This is one of two Online Traditional Song Workshops for Children which I produced for County Wexford Public Library Services as part of their ‘Spring into Storytime’ series in April 2020. The song which I share with you in this video is ‘Hear the Cuckoo Sing’ which I wrote as part of a project I devised and coordinated with my partner Michael Fortune called ‘Songs for Children’ in 2018. The chorus is actually a little song which Wexford singer and song collector Paddy Berry learned as a child when he went to school in Duncormick, Co Wexford. I wrote the song with young children in mind as I’m always looking for new songs for young children as part of my work with Music Generation Wexford and the Heritage in Schools Scheme.
To hear the cuckoo is a sign that summer is on its way and the little chorus in this song mimics the sound of the cuckoo’s call. After that it all goes a bit cuckoo! You can put your hand to your ear and join in all the actions as you sing along. We hope you enjoy it!
The other Online Traditional Song Workshop which was supported by Wexford Libraries in April 2020 is ‘Here I Am Amongst You’ which is suitable particularly for older children but loved buy all ages.
