Francis Lai wrote the melody for the movie, Love Story. The instrumental played through out the tearjerker. Carl Sigman wrote lyrics at the request of Paramount pictures who were distributors of the film. Andy Williams had a top 10 vocal version and Henry's version peaked at #13 on the hot 100 charts.
