IF HE WALKED INTO MY LIFE, Eydie Gorme, Columbia # 43660 1966
Flipside: TELL HIM I SAID HELLO – Here’s another really great uncharted song from my music collection. Eydie Gorme hailed from the Bronx, NY. She was born “Edith Gormezano” August 16, 1928 and sadly passed on August 10, 2013.
Eydie Gorme is considered to be one of the greatest pop singers of all time. She married super star singer, “Steve Lawrence” in 1957 after meeting him on the original TONIGHT SHOW. They recorded and performed many duets together and both appeared on every major TV show until Eydie retired in 2009.
Eydie released over 40 record albums during her amazing career and had 17 songs charted nationally on Billboard. Her biggest was “BLAME IT ON THE BOSSA NOVA” which charted in March 1963 for 15 weeks and reached #7. She also appeared in a number of motion pictures.
Along with her husband Steve, Eydie was awarded the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award and inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She received an Emmy and the Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.
In 1967, Eydie was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Vocal Performance, Female for her recording of “IF HE WALKED INTO MY LIFE” which was written by Jerry Herman for the hit musical ‘Mame’.
Jerry (Gerald Sheldon ) Herman was an American composer/lyricist who was most known for his scores for the hit musicals ‘Hello Dolly!’, ‘La Cage aux Folles’ and ‘Mame’. He was awarded the Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre in 2009 and was a recipient of the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors.
Enjoy “IF HE WALKED INTO MY LIFE” by the late, great Eydie Gorme.
