Description
Heard this played over in Vietnam on Armed Forces Radio. Liked it and recorded it off the airwaves. I knew it was a cover of a Chuck Jackson hit. NEVER EVER heard it played on radio stations back in the world. Never could figure out who the artist/s were. The male singer sounded enough like David Clayton Thomas from Blood Sweat and Tears, but they did not have a girl singer, Chicago, again no girl singer. Took me 40 plus years, but now I know it was a group from the great white north - Illustration.
This fabulous Canadian eleven member group came to the USA in 1969, toured with Rod Stewart, Leon Russell, Tina Turner and Miles Davis, blowing away audiences with the band's musicianship, unique sound, power of its six-man horn section and the soulfulness of the lead vocalist, Billy Ledster. Producer Alan Lorber recorded an album which in the 1970 Rolling Stone magazine man-to-man comparison with big band/jazz groups Chicago Lighthouse and Ambergris, came out on top in every category. The group released a later album "Man Made" and a spin-off by Illustration founder, John Ranger, entitled "Sailing In Space. .
