My version of Molly Malone is the result of the campaign I started in March 2024, ‘Leave Molly mAlone’, in an effort to squash the “tradition” of touching the statue’s breasts “for good luck”. As a busker who spends hours performing next to the statue, I became fed up with the misogynistic behaviour that surrounded the statue, one of the few representations of women in Irish culture. The campaign gained huge amounts of press and led to recent talks with Dublin City Council about permanent changes being put in place. I will be releasing my recorded version of the song around the anniversary of the campaign, which should coincide with the announcement of the changes due to be made. I really appreciate all the support I have received for the campaign, and am determined to persevere until this behaviour is squashed, hopefully promoting further female representation in culture. #LeaveMollymAlone #IfSheWereAliveOh #MakeDublinCityFair #QuestionAndQuash
