George L. Crockett was born in Mississippi but like so many others migrated to Chicago in the mid-1950's. He had some exposure on the blues circuit in Chicago and actually released a solo recording in 1957 titled, Look Out Mabel. Crockett wouldn't resurface again on the charts until 1965, when he out of the blue scored a hit with, It's A Man Down There, peaking at #4 on the Cash Box chart, week ending 9/18/65. Health omplications from alcholism limited his ability to record consistently and he died from a blood clot in the brain in 1967 at the age of 38.
