Description
A set of striking, long-lost photographs, believed to be from around 1957, shows what appears to be a same-sex commitment ceremony in Philadelphia. The images depict moments such as exchanging rings, kissing, dancing, cutting the cake, and opening gifts. They were originally developed at a neighborhood drugstore, but the store owner deemed them “inappropriate” and refused to return them to the couple.
More than sixty years later, the photos resurfaced and are now preserved in the ONE Archives at USC in Los Angeles and the Wilcox Archives in Philadelphia.
